Mark Holzinger

An Expression Of Various Styles

San Francisco based solo guitarist Mark Holzinger submitted his eight song instrumental CD-R, Just Thinkin' Out Loud, an expression of the various styles he has developed over the decades as a professional musician. Free-flowing, melodic, intricate, expertly performed and intricately arranged, Holzinger has managed to deliver an engaging collection of tunes sure to hold the interest of even the most jaded of fans of instrumental acoustic music. All the instrumentals are originals, except for a well chosen cover of Lennon/McCartney's "In My Life" and the tune, "All The Things You Are". Holzinger;s originals are irresistible melodic gems which still offer compelling moments of improvisation and embellishment. Well done. Mark Holzinger was originally profiled in the February-March, 2006 edition of The Undiscovered.

alb Mark wears many hats. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area, he always enjoyed playing in bands with bass, drums, piano, horns, violin, vocals and even big bands. But Mark also spent a lot of time practicing and performing unaccompanied, not really knowing that this would have a huge impact on his musical future. Since returning to to his San Francisco roots in 1995, he has recorded and performed regularly at local venues and music festivals. He has released many CDs, among them a 2002 release with the 11 piece western swing band Lost Weekend, and his jazz-funk release with Groove.Org. Mark was the lead guitarist in the musical "Cumberland Blues" featuring music by Garcia/Hunter. A cross section of the artists he has played with include Big Joe Turner, Marvin Gaye, Ricki Lee Jones, Charlie Hunter, David Baker, Mark Isham and Vinnie Coliuta.

While performing concerts and festivals, Holzinger makes his living providing entertainment at restaurants, weddings, parties and private events. He has continuous, engagements on the Hornblower Yachts, Gordon's House of Fine Eats, Jupiter Lounge, and Italian Colors, where he strolls through the restaurant with a remote wireless guitar system.

Mobilis Stabilis

An Edge Rock Instrumental Band

Delivering a progressive fusion of rock with some exotic instrumentation is the Brazilian band Mobilis Stabilis on their CD, Extra Corpore. Featuring Helcio Aguirra as primary guitarist, and Joao Luiz Braghetta as secondary guitarist (guitar synth and sitar, as well as regular guitar), the band offers intricately arranged pieces rife with improvisation, aggressive solos, and additional surprise elements. The guitar playing is consistently focused, spirited not shredded, yet with the 'edge' and attitude to make for great listening. Standout tracks such as "Os 10 Pensamentos", "Stabilix" and the title track are guitar-oriented compositions that challenge and confound one's expectations, and with five of the album's eight tracks exceeding eight minutes in length, no one will feel cheated that the musical ideas were not explored in depth. Worth a close listen. Mobilis Stabilis were originally profiled in the April-May, 2006 edition of The Undiscovered.

pic Formed by great musicians from the Brazilian music scene, Mobilis Stabilis is determined to produce a real 'synthesis', collecting and mixing a large number of cultural references. The rhythmic and harmonic structures that come from the band's core create a sound full of density, mobility and complexity. The members of the group define themselves as an 'edge rock' instrumental band, since their compositions and the arrangements are marked by the use of instruments which are far from traditional rock, such as Hindu sitar, flute, violin and more. Their name, Mobilis Stabilis, is inspired by the work of American artist Alexander Calder.

Looking to make headway into the English-speaking music market, Mobilis Stabilis is poised to establish themselves as an instrumental force to be reckoned with.
