Every day, the next hit song is lost due to unpreparedness. Feels great when cool hook starts playing in your until you realize that you are not at all ready to actually compose what you hear.

One of your ideas might be to continue thinking about the song and developing it in your head. You may have also thought to grab the nearest recording device to capture the short melody. While of these are all okay ideas, I will tell you right now that they are not the best ideas.
