Picking

Happy New Year! In this lesson I will be showing you some 2 string, repeated scale fragments that we will use to create longer lines. These fragments are great for developing your right hand picking. It is important to master each fragment and then move it within the scale all over the neck. You can apply these to any scale as well, and for this lesson we will mainly be in the A and E minor scale. These examples will increase your speed and your picking technique. Be sure to alternate pick all of the examples. Let's get right to it...

Example 1 is a 2 string, sixteenth note triplet scale fragment, that is in A minor (A, B, C, D, E, F, G). This repeated pattern moves down the neck in A minor, but first, get it up to speed in one position and then move it around the neck.

Example 2 is the same pattern as the previous example, but this one ascends up the neck in A minor. Basically, the pattern moves up the neck in 5th's and it falls right in the scale. Again, this pattern can be applied anywhere and it is up to your imagination to create new ideas.

Now, with Example 3 we have a different pattern, this one is in E minor (E, F#, G, A, B, C, D) and it is 12 note repeated pattern in 3/4. This one sounds great fast and precise, be sure to use some palm muting.
