Bump
The Story
John Scofield's "Bump" continues in the soulful groove of the guitarist's previous recording, "A Go Go". Where "A Go Go" found Scofield jamming with Medeski, Martin & Wood, "Bump" mixes things up - here, he is joined by an alternating cast, including MMW's bassist Chris Wood,"Sex Mob's bassist Tony Scherr and drummer Kenny Wollesen, Soul Coughing's keyboardist Mark De Gli Antoni, and Latin percussionist Johnny Almendra. Scofield says "Bump" is even more of a departure from his fusion days than "A Go Go" was. "I wanted even more of a funk feel," he says. Even Rough Guide states, "Scofield's all-original material covers a variety of different moods and grooves - most of them very danceable, and all of them all of them highly enjoyable."
