Guitar On YouTube: Dan Hawkins Bass Masterclass

Dan Hawkins is an London-based bass player, freelance musician and bass guitar instructor. He has played with a large number of artists and bands over the years including Katie Melua, and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas. His television sessions include working with Rod Stewart, Carla Bruni, and Olly Murs, among others.

Hawkins is currently recording video lessons and teaching all things bass and music through his web site www.onlinebasscourses.com. His book "Creative Bass Technique Exercises – 70 Melodic Exercises to Develop Great Feel and Technique on Bass Guitar" was published by Fundamental Changes in 2019.

His influences include Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Jimmy Haslip, Tony Levin, John Patitucci, Saturnino, Victor Wooten, Carol Kaye, Pino Palladino (a huge influence), Stu Hamm, Bryan Beller, Herbie Flowers, Dave Richmond, Paul McCartney, Gail Anne-Dorsey, Guy Pratt, Laurence Cottle, Mark King and Geddy Lee.

Dan Hawkins' masterclass focuses on pentatonics for bass, a scale that has given the world hundreds of memorable bass lines, fills and solos. He also delves into phrasing, articulation and soloing, as well as offers tips on making up your own exercises and original bass lines.
