Scott Hughes' third CD, entitled The In-Between Phase, finds him returning to his roots, as the fusion-esque leanings of his earlier work are replaced with a gutsy, stripped down approach that combines finely-crafted tunes with the tasteful, contemporary guitar work that listeners have come to expect. In addition to Hughes' orignals, listeners are treated to covers of Edgar Winter's classic "Frankenstein", and a unique spin on Thelonious Monk's "Blue
Monk". Guitarists Derryl Gabel and Jeff Smoots also join in for guest solos on "Fi-Lo". An endorsee for Dimarzio pickups, and Brian Moore guitars, as well as a Guitar Player magazine "Spotlight" recipient, Scott Hughes' latest effort is sure to please both the casual music fan as well as the rabid guitar enthusiast.
