The New England based progressive rock group Electrum's second release, Standard Deviation, is comprised of seven compositions that are mostly rhapsodic in form, laced with orchestral keyboard arrangements, abundant time signature changes, and concise lead break sections. Guitarist Dave Kulju and bassist Gino Foti once again spearhead the compositional and instrumental duties, while drummer Joe Musmanno adds his superb percussion talents to all seven instrumental tracks. Drawing from a myriad of influences and styles, and arranged to feature the ensemble instead of the soloist, Standard Deviation is not only a deviation from mainstream music trends, but from most instrumental power trio albums.
