From New England comes the progressive rock CD Frames Of Mind by Electrum, a trio of like-minded musicians who initially formed their group through Internet postings in 1995. Influenced by electric fusion and the progressive recordings of Rush, guitarist Dave Kulju, bassist Gino Foti and percussionist Joe Musmanno focused from the start on all-instrumental, original material. Frames Of Mind features powerful rhythm work ("Ascension", "), frantic guitar parts ("Voices"), Lifeson/Lee-like guitar and bass interplay ("Dialectic"), and clever riffs ("Reverie"). Bottom line: a complex set of compositions composed with a lot of thought and craftsmanship, designed to stretch listeners' minds.
