Flying Dog
The Story
Paul Gilbert's second solo record "Flying Dog", is a deft combination of clever writing and awesome guitar work. As a member of the '80s premier guitar band Racer X and later, million sellers Mr. Big, Gilbert has gained a reputation as being one of the most melodic and powerful guitar players in the rock arena. Gilbert's solo work has allowed him the opportunity to exercise his deep appreciation for the more song oriented side of rock music. The music was recorded live in the studio, and Gilbert overdubbed the vocals and a couple guitar solos afterwards. "Flying Dog" features an all-guitar version of J.C. Bach's "Harpsichord Concerto in A" (called here the "Gilberto Concerto", as well as several tunes that Gilbert wrote during the Mr. Big years ("Heavy Disco Trip", "Kate is a Star", "Midnight Maryanne", and "Beautiful Girls Are Insane").
