Flesh On Flesh
The Story
Using a number of guitars from his standby 1958 Les Paul to an Ovation acoustic, Al DiMeola delivers his trademark compositional complexity on his 2002 release, "Flesh On Flesh". Joined on the eight instrumentals by stellar musicians such as Anthony Jackson on bass and Ernie Adams on drums, the music displays a lot of what DiMeola has learned over the past few years, combined with the attitude and energy of his early recordings. The title track, in particular, was inspired by the heavy Cuban culture, incredible sights and imagery that exist in Miami, where the album was recorded. "Fugata" sounds like Havana and Buenos Aires meeting, due to the heavy syncopation, while "Saffire Soleil" will remind you of something from an avant-garde circus.
