The Undiscovered: Pat Thomi

Remote Control is Los Angeles guitarist, composer, arranger and producer Pat Thomi's third CD, featuring a collection of electric progressive fusion and rock numbers. All instrumental (save for the opening tune, a pop/rock vocal number and some talkbox work on "The Bitch"), Thomi allows himself the freedom to rip, making the album the answer to a guitar lover's prayer. His talent as a composer sets the CD apart, and his skills on the six-string add the requisite aggression, power and edge. Cuts such as the original title track and the Jaco Pastorius cover "Havona (Revisited)" literally leap from the speakers, the latter featuring a number of exciting solo passages and improvisations. Remember the name Thomi - his visually evokative instrumental works are worth a close listen.

Born and raised in Basel, Switzerland, Pat received from his father (a classical and jazz piano player) a love of the great master composers such as Mozart, Wagner and Debussy. Starting with the drums, he gravitated towards piano and guitar and later studied at the Basel Conservatory of Music. Desiring to play live, Pat formed the group Ramayana, which played the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Zurich Jazz Festival. He later attended the Berklee School of Music in Boston, studying film music. Pat has also studied with Pat Martino and Joe Diorio. He has played live and in the studio with artists such as Gino Vannelli, Jean Luc Ponty, Gary Wright and Wendy and Lisa.

Thomi's discography includes 1994's "Night Of The Coral", a pop/jazz instrumental album, and the follow-up CD, "Fairytales", an atmospheric, acoustic compilation. He is currently working on another ambient album.
