The Undiscovered: Jo Cuseo
Another bluesman currently circulating his musical vision is Los Angeles area guitarist Jo Cuseo. His self-titled, five-song CD-R demonstrates his gritty vocal treatment and signature, stomping blues riffs, played with a rocker's intensity. Off-the-cuff, improvised solos mark each track, from "The Answer" through "Rain On Me". Hale and hearty cuts such as "Stay With Me Awhile" and "Stand For The U.S.A." seem geared to evoke an emotional response from the listener, as Cuseo puts a charge into each composition with his down-and-dirty six-string. He's taking his act to venues around Southern California; if you happen to see his name on a club's schedule, drop in and shout out your encouragement.
Jo hails from the coastal community of San Diego. He grew up playing guitar under the sun and in the local venues of San Diego's lively Pacific Beach. In 1989, Jo moved north to Los Angeles to pursue his musical dream in a larger way. This journey led to work with such stalwart musicians as Mike Landau, Walfredo Reyes Jr. (Santana, Stevie Winwood), Jan Buckingham and Tom Deluca, who has worked with Merideth Brooks, among others. In the interim Cuseo also traveled to Nashville, working with (and) catching the ear of Tony Brown in a live performance of a song he co-wrote with Dianna Johnson.
Of late, the Burbank-based Cuseo has produced and released his own album, which thus far has been heard on KLOS 95.5 FM's "Local Licks" show and AdrenalinRadio.com. He continues to perform regularly in the Los Angeles area while pursuing his ongoing musical vision(s).
