Magic City is the title of guitarist Paul Rose's latest CD, and from the opening track, you know you are in for some instrumental guitar magic. Rose delivers quality production, compelling songwriting, and his own brand of unique, saucy, classic-rock-drenched-but-edgy guitar work. He's also able to incorporate a number of other styles, such as jazz ("My Favourite Things", "Ned's Guitar"), new age ("Shields"), dance ("Homework Bound"), and more, using a thematic, yet at times unpredictable compositional approach. Rose's guitar licks can range from sublimely savage to melodically memorable - at times within the same tune. His cover of the Venture's "Walk Don't Run" takes the song into a new, wilder sonic space, with lots of wang bar and a shred-worthy solo. Guitar fans will absolutely love Magic City and probably become dedicated Paul Rose fans on only one listen.
