British guitarist Paul Rose's new CD Half Alive is exaclty what the title says. A half live, half studio album showcasing Rose at his most exciting and frenetic. The studio tracks were recorded at Kich Studios near Oxford, with the live tracks taken from the October 2003 show at the East Grange Loft, in the Scottish Highlands. Backed by Richard Newman on drums throughout and various bass players, the tracks on this album are a mixture of both cover versions and original compostions. Newman is an excellent powerhose of a drummer who has played with Rory Gallagher and Steve Marriott, and who complements Rose's guitar playing superbly
Anyone who has seen the band in the last 12 months and wanted to take home something of the gig will not be disappointed. Rose has not left fans of instrumental guitar behind either; instrumental tracks include "Rise & Shine", "Touch Wood", "Red House" and "Con Trick".
