Fingerstyle guitarist Nick Thompson's 1996 CD release, Red Weather, features thirteen original selections, one of which ("Variations From A Purple Haze") which was inspired by Jimi Hendrix' recording of "Purple Haze". Using 6- and 12-string guitars, the CD was recorded directly (live) to two-track, with no overdubbing. Interestingly, "Reflections Of My Favorite Things" was also inspired - by John Coltrane's version of "My Favorite Things". Thompson uses a number of startling and interesting guitar techniques on Red Weather, which he would later develop further on his follow-up CD, "Sometimes Splatter Paints".
