Portuguese bassist Miguel Amado's 2004 CD, Mensagens De Fumo (loosely translated, "Smoke Signals") features all original compositions, along with Amado's quartet. In addition to Amado, you'll hear Guto Lucena (saxophone), Ruben Alves (keyboards) and Vicky (drums). Special guest performances on Mensagens De Fumo include guitarists Luis Moreno (on "One Last Day") and Francisco Abreu (on "Amesterdao De Bicicleta").
Born in 1973, Amado studied classical guitar with guitarist Pineiro Nagy, at the Academia de Amadores de Musica. He studied jazz and the electric bass some years later, taking private lessons with teachers like guitarist Pedro Madaleno, with whom he studied improvisation, composition and arrangement. He currently teaches private students, as well as at the jazz school of the Hot Clube de Portuga, where he teaches the electric bass and combo. In 2002, he appeared as a guest musician on guitarist Luis Moreno's CD "Just in Time". In 2003 he recorded the CD "A Opera Magica Do Cantor Maldito" with Fausto. Mensagens De Fumo - a bass-oriented release of dynamic jazz/fusion.
