Guitar Noir

Mark Doyle
Sold through Guitar Nine thru 2012

A veteran of the music scene for the past twenty five years, N.Y.-based guitarist Mark Doyle's long-awaited, debut solo album is entitled Guitar Noir. Having recorded with artists such as Hall & Oates, Meatloaf and Bryan Adams, Doyle lays down atmospheric, stirring, sometimes jazzy, sometimes bluesy, sometimes muscular guitar lines over the twelve instrumental cuts. Assisted by several outstanding players (Jimmy Johns on drums and Darryl Pugh on upright bass, to name a few), Doyle covers music from composers such as Henry Mancini and Marvin Hamlisch in addition to jazz legends such as Thelonious Monk and Ornette Coleman. The tracks on the CD--cleverly aligned around a film noir theme--actually crackle with the sound of vinyl scratches and soar with searing guitar lines and swelling Hammond B-3 parts. Doyle also proves his own composing skills on the sinister sounding title track. Guitar Noir stands as Doyle's tribute to the well-known attributes of movie and TV music that makes up the soundtrack to our lives.
