Guitarist/composer Lyle Workman follows up his eclectic, 1995 release "Purple Passages" with Tabula Rasa, a ten song, mostly instrumental (Mike Keneally guest vocals on one track) display of textural guitar sophistication with a potent rock edge. Workman loves to keep the listener guessing as to the direction the music will take, as the music explores Indian influences, psychedelia, bluegrass, fusion, progressive and 60's-era rock while his six-string tells the melodic stories. Of course, Tabula Rasa has plenty of worthy guitar solos, featuring blazing lines alongside sinuous, attitude-filled melodic lead work. Progressive fans have not been forgotten either, as they will love the extended compositions "Splendid Outcast" and "Rising Of The Mourning Son".
