Laszlo Halper is a Hungarian Roma guitarist. He graduated from the Batrok Bela Jazz Conservatory in Budapest, where his teacher was Gyula Babos. Upon graduation he went to Vienna and Studied at the American Institute of Music where Les Wise helped him to improve his style. After his studies he began to play with Angus "Bangus" Thomas who had earlier performed with Miles Davis (World Tour, 1985). In addition he played with different famous jazz and blues musicians. On Urban Noises, Halper tries to mix authentic Hungarian folk and Roma music with jazz, blues and modern grooves - wanting to realize his musical ideas without compromise. Primarily experimental in nature, all of the drum/percussion samples heard on the CD come from our natural environment.
