First Move

In the contemporary jazz/fusion vein comes First Move from Los Angeles bassist Larry Steen. Containing eleven tracks of creative, world fusion music, First Move also features renowned recording artists such as saxophonist Ernie Watts, drummer Dave Weckl, pianist Bill Cunliffe and flugelhornist Jeff Beal. The songs incorporate rhythmic ideas from the music of Brazil, Eastern Europe, the Caribbean and West Africa, as well as blending in funk and classical influences. Steen's punchy bass lines highlight and augment the music spanning a variety of cultures. The compositions on First Move display variety, an excellent use of dynamics and a sense of the dramatic.
