Istvan Gyarfas writes in the liner notes about his 2006 jazz release, entitled Old Amsterdam, "What comes to mind when I hear the phrase Old Amesterdam? Many things... but I'd rather let the songs on the album answer the question... and I haven't even mentioned those ice-cold, delicious beers, those Thursday nights I go down to the club with my guitar on my back, and of course, my excellent musician friends (partners in crime) what are also part and parcel of the Old Amsterdam feeling every week. Thank you for accompanying me!" His partners in crime for this disc include Peter Czako (bass) and Balas Cseh (drums) as well as a half dozen or more guest artists (trumpets, saxes, acoustic basses and even flugelhorns). This is some superb, inspired jazz music from Hungary - don't miss it.
