What If was the second studio record from the Dixie Dregs released in 1978, and many experts claim this album should the first to be added to any instrumental collection. It featured many great songs including "Take it off The Top", a fine rocker which has been the ammunition for Steve Morse's explosive solos for many years. The guitarist's melodies have an almost otherwordly elegance on songs like "Night Meets Light" and the title track. Ken Scott's production on What If is at times atmospheric and manages to capture the incredible dynamics of the group.
