Strange And Savage Tales

Colin Mandel Group
Sold through Guitar Nine thru 2012

The late guitarist Colin Mandel pulled out all the stops on his debut recording Strange And Savage Tales..., a CD that takes us on a virtual intergalactic journey. Mandel, who had been profiled in Guitar World and Guitar Player, recorded nine instrumental examples that showed he could almost do whatever he wanted to do with his instrument. In the words of reviewer Blaine Fallis, "Mandel explores a vast array of musical landscapes with his playing. At some points he soothes with a blend of light guitar picking, acoustic guitar playing accompanied by upright and fretless bass. At others he burns with overdriven electric fury." One listen to the complex funky fusion of "Count Me Out" and the title track, or the bold sonic experiments of "Church Of Moments Parts 1 and 2" should be enough to convince the uninitiated that Mandel was a guitarist to be reckoned with.
