Fear-Pain-Love is Caterine's second solo release, following several years of creating, recording and touring with Tragic Nancy, Gathering of Deities, and most notably, Hawaii's heavy metal monarchs, Sacred Rite, of which Caterine was its founder. Guitarist Jimmy Dee Caterine writes, "Fear-Pain-Love had its beginnings in 1993, but circumstances didn't allow me to finish the project then. In 1997 I recorded basics for the remaining tracks. To my surprise, I discovered that the tapes containing the original tracks had been mistaken for blanks and recorded over. All that remained were some rough mixes and basic track mixes that I had done on DAT. Rather than re-record the project, I opted to record an altogether different CD - Caterine: Cognition - which has its own bizarre tale. Technology and my knack for saving things allowed me to piece together that original project and complete it. There are no keyboards on this CD. This is a guitar album!"
