Alabama-based guitarist Ben Trexel's third instrumental CD, Deep In The Mix continues in the tradition of his first two albums, containing powerful, electric guitar heavy songs as well as contemplative, orchestrated acoustic pieces. Striving to create interesting tracks that appeal to not just guitar fans, but to music lovers in general, Trexel crafts compositions such as "Foreshadow", "Dream Sequence" and the title track with driving beats and layered, structurally tight arrangements, while acoustic interludes such as "Salisbury Road" and "Pamplona" provide tonal variety and richness - lending more power and impact to the heavier tracks (Jimmy Page was a master of this technique). Deep In The Mix is one of those albums that will stand up to repeated listenings - a clean, crisp production and airy mix ensuring that nothing stands between the listener and Trexel's music.
