Rough Edges is the debut jazz/funk album of London based guitarist Alex Goulden, who combines the tone and attack of a blues guitarist with the musical sophistication of a jazz guitarist. Saxophonists Rob Skeet and Jamie Anderson, along with pianists Mike Gorman and Simon Colam are given equal room to improvise on this collection of tracks which alternate between funk and straight ahead jazz. Goulden originals on Rough Edges include the opening track, "Gutbuster", as well as "The Mirror", while the band does a great job on tracks such as Lester Young's "Lester Leaps In", Joe Zarwinul's "Birdland" and Sonny Rollins' tune "St. Thomas".
