Ya' Know... It's Go! is the title of the 2001 CD release by the Matt McCloskey Trio. The trio consists of McCloskey on guitar, Micah Jones on upright bass, and Erik Johnson on drums. There are ten tracks on the CD, nine of which are original compositions written by McCloskey and arranged with Jones and Johnson. The last track is a solo guitar arrangement of the Beatles classic "In My Life". The music can be described as jazz - it does swing frequently, and improvisation is a focus. However, many different influences abound, so it certainly veers from the bebop or hardbop genre. You won't find standards here, and you won't find re-writes of standards. But rest assured - this is not smooth jazz! Nor is it fusion in the common sense of the word. It also is not avant garde either. But solos are on the disc in abundance, from each of the three players. If you like the Metheny trio discs, the Gateway trio with John Abercrombie, Kurt Rosenwinkle and others like them, you may just like Ya' Know... It's Go! as well.
