This song gives me the feeling of traveling. The California Zephyr is a train that travels daily from Denver to San Francisco.

When an important relationship ended, it took me a few years to get over it. Then, one day, something really shifted. It was in that clear moment that I wrote this song.

A friend of mine named this song "Happy Pig In Spring". Actually, pigs can get happy any time of year, especially if they don`t have any cavities.

This is the only instrumental to appear on my mostly vocal first album, "Natural Voice Inisde". I named it "Pacific" partly because I was missing a close friend who had moved to the West Coast, and partly because the word itself means `peaceful`.

This song was written on two cups of coffee, while I was waiting for a friend to come over. We went cross-country skiing. Then we came back again.

I started writing this song on a camping trip I took in Moab, Utah with my friend Marilyn Widmer. Two years later, she died in Colorado Springs. I finished writing "Passing Through" to play at her funeral.

For me, this song carries the spirit of the whole album.

I started writing this song in 1983, when I was living in Tallahassee. I finished it mostly while looking at the fields outside my window and thinking about cleaning the litter box.
