letter he Dixie Dregs, and /or The Dregs are one and the same band, give or take a keyboardist here and there, What If, is the release (the second by the band), that really set the tone for the band and the band's future. Some of the band's albums are just a bit user friendly than others, this being one of their higher rated, why? Well, unlike the debut (Freefall), where the band was giving you doses of different genres tune after tune, like classical/chamber like music, Bluegrass, Jazz/Fusion, rock, funk, it seemed this debut was an example of the bands diverse tastes and talent, well worth seeking out by the way, What If, is a much more focused album, the band now has melded all these styles and more and in the context of one song! Morse smartly surrounded himself with like-minded and superlative musicians, coming off as a Southern-styled version of Mahavishnu, or Return To Forever. And this would be the beginning of the bands legendary journey, as now both Morse, drummer- Morganstein, Keyman- T Lavitz, have etched their places amongst fusion and rock's top musicians at their respected instruments, all have gone on to have successful carreers elsewhere, yet they always find time to reunite for Dregs activities, and let's hope more Dregs CDs are in our future.
