Vertu
The Story
"Vertu" marks a return to fusion for ex-Return to Forever stars Stanley Clarke (bass) and Lenny White (drums), along with Rachel Z on keys, Karen Briggs on violin and the versatile Richie Kotzen on guitar. Kotzen gets to exercise his fusion chops all over highlights such as "V-Wave" and "Marakesh", and the entire band gets a workout in the two part opus "Topasio". Briggs is a ferociously aggressive soloiist in her own right (fans of Ponty, take note). If you miss Return To Forever and wouldn't mind hearing an updated, more guitar-centric version of that group, check out "Vertu" - hopefully one super group that will go beyond the debut disc.
