he debut CD by Derek Sherinian's - Planet X was nothing short of brilliant. He and drummer Virgil Donati rediscovered the lost prog sub-genre of technical progressive fusion, and gave it a boost with some metal leanings. I was thinking that this was to be a one - shot effort, and low and behold he comes back with a seemingly new and improved version of Planet X. Gone are Brett Garsed (guitars) and Tony Franklin (bass), and in comes Tony MacAlpine - guitars, and Tom Kennedy - bass, and now as a band called Planet X. UK, Bruford, Brand X, RTF, although much heavier in terms of power. So, if you are looking for somenthing to crank up to get you going, and you don't mind over the top musicianship, complexity with balls, go ahead and get this stuff. I am always looking forward to what they do next.
