Inspired By North American Roots
|
Diego Garcia is a talented axe man from Spain, who combines a little Danny Gatton, Scott Henderson, Michael Lee Firkins, Johnny A and Pat Metheny and comes up with Octopus, his debut solo CD. An instrumental affair, with occasional sound bytes for dramatic effect, the music on the album displays Garcia's North American music influences (jazz, blues, country), and also showcases a technically proficient player who shuns overloaded virtuosity in favor of interesting compositions. You'll be treated to graceful slide licks, ethereal volume swells, well-crafted solos and more - surely a treat for guitar fans. Octopus was released through Garcia's own label, RBK Music, and will be out in Japan and Germany in September of 2005.
At the age of 8, Diego entered the Music Conservatory of Valencia (Spain). During the next seven years he studied classical guitar, harmony and music. At the age of 16, he was already teaching electric guitar to his own students at La Sala, a renowned school in Valencia. When he was only 15, he joined the band Rock 'n' Bordes, recorded two albums with them and played all over Europe during three successive tours. Diego later collaborated with artists such as Seguridad Social, Ximo Tebar, Joan Bibiloni and Alberto Tarin, which led to his relocation to the Spanish capital of Madrid. He continued to work with many national artists, while he developed serious musical abilities and a real style and presence on the stage.
Octopus leaves enough space to the imagination of the listener. In this case, music evolves towards a primitive language that we all have present in our subconscious minds, beyond roots and words, only music.

Cross-cultural Fusion Of Music
|
Brent Gunter's new CD, Andalucia, is a cross-cultural fusion of music that is both earth and sky - rooted yet transcendent. Centered around his Spanish guitar which lends itself not only to classical and flamenco influences but also the blues, the tunes possess a gentle, rolling quality yet are steeped with a percussive undertow. Appealing to the world music market, Gunter's ability to offer beauty with lyricism, rich tone with technical excellence, and expressiveness with passion sets his original compositions apart. Carving out a unique sonic space in that market is a challenge, but Gunter has achieved it, using classical compositional and performance skills honed in college. He started his own record label, Sandia Crest, which aims to "inspire the music through music." Andalucia is a great first offering.
Brent was born in the Pacific Northwest and grew up in a musical family in the desert of north central New Mexico. He got his first Spanish guitar when he was five, and was inspired to learn by his guitar-playing uncle and cousins. Classical and flamenco were early influences as family members used the styles to create their own fusion that included western swing, country and traditional Mexican songs. Gunter was also fascinated as a listener with symphonic music and soundtracks. After going through his classic rock phase (Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, the hard rock of the 80s), Gunter returned to music that was more classical-oriented. He studied classical composition in college and went on to explore the cross-pollination of musical styles. He also became a fan of guitarist Will Ackermanšs then-burgeoning early-80s acoustic music revolution with his homebred Windham Hill label.
Now, armed with his newly completed, state-of-the-art recording studio, and a well organized record label, Gunter continues to build on his foundation as a new world music artist.
