Communicating Beauty, Peace, And Joy
|
Balancing intricate counterpoints and sophisticated harmonies, Canada's Rosette Guitar Duo (guitarists Kevin Marsh and Michael Lyngstad) create an air of calm with their soothing melodies. Their sound is an eclectic merging of classical, world, jazz, and popular song that is fresh in its approach and intent. Their CD Portage To Tunnel Mountain, features eight acoustic instrumentals, including the exquisite, three-part "Medeterranean Suite", which is handled with sensitivity, telepathic interplay and graceful musical finesse. The opening numbers, "Winter Lullaby" and the title track, set the stage for the music to follow - discreetly orchestrated arrangements that amply demonstrate Lyngstad and Marsh's abilities, and that will appeal to a wide range of acoustic guitar lovers.
Guitarists Kevin Marsh and Michael Lyngstad formed the Rosette Guitar Duo in the spring of 2001. Kevin is from Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. His passion for guitar stretches extensively over an eclectic mix of genres with a strong commitment to classical guitar. He began his musical studies over twenty years ago, and has studied performance at the Post-Secondary level at Concordia College and at the University of Alberta under Carl Lotsberg's mentorship. Michael is from Swift Current, Saskatchewan. His enthusiasm for guitar music has been influenced by jazz and rock with a heavy emphasis on classical guitar. Michael graduated from the Grant MacEwan College jazz performance program and has recently completed his BMus/BEd Combined at the University of Alberta.
The Rosette Guitar Duo will be touring extensively in support of their CD delivering a message of kindness and hope through the beauty of their music. They are advocates of environmental and humanitarian causes, supporting these beliefs through music.

Having The Guts To Play What They Feel
|
Superkiller is a heavy rock CD from a power trio consisting of guitarist Jimmy Ryan, bassist Bill Kopecky and drummer Johnny Mrozek. Eleven tracks are presented with seven being instrumental, and four featuring the gruff vocalisms of Ryan. Crashing chords, bass solos, frenetic tapping, searing heavy riffs, and hot-wired leads mark this hard rock freak-out - clearly Ryan, Kopecky and Mrozek are aiming to put the passion, fire and soul back into a style of music that can't grab the guitar mags narrowly-focused attention spans these days. Superkiller might have been a better CD, with greater impact, as an all-instrumental record, but hey, you can't have everything. For music from dedicated musicians who have the guts to play what they feel, Superkiller is an easy pickup.
Guitarist Jimmy Ryan talks about Superkiller, "This CD is truly an enema for the constipated music scene. It's the ultimate 'jam' album. I wrote these tracks expressly for this amazing lineup. The limited rehearsals kept the tracks energized and fresh, and the rhythm tracks - guitar, bass and drums - were laid down live. The solos were basically blown right off the top - first or second take. The energy signature of this approach is evident on each and every track. My brother, Johnny Ryan, engineered the entire project, and his expertise and input were integral to its success. This was truly a labor of love."
Truth Squad delivers their message with music, solid songwriting and arranging, top-gun production and threatening guitar work that would make today's three-chord, baggy pants, hats-backwards, alternative rock, armchair generals running for the woodshed.
