Group Blends Modern & Classic Rock

North Carolina's Soul Angel, a quintet of experienced musicians featuring Grey Moore on guitar and Macgowen Avent on vocals and acoustic guitar, has recently released their self-titled CD of ten classic/hard rock style tracks. In describing the band's sound (enhanced by Lea Peed - keyboards, Jay Renard - bass and Neal Purser - drums), early Y&T (Yesterday & Today) and Bad Company spring to mind as connections to the late '70s and early '80s, which may be due to Avent's vocals (reminiscent of Dave Meniketti's singing) and Moore's six-string work (also reminicent of Meniketti's guitar playing). Peed loves to add the Hammond organ sound into the mix, which gives Moore another classic instrument to solo off of. The harder tracks satisfy any cravings you may have for classic axe riffs, whereas the ballads are more song oriented, naturally. The title track closes the CD, and may very well sum up the group's sound and direction more than any other - relentlessly driving with an extended guitar solo - perfect for closing a show.

Soul Angel has been together for about two years. Each member of the group brings many years of experience to the table. Some of the band's influences include Elvis Presley, Alice Cooper, KISS, Van Halen, Toto, Beatles, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Jaco Pastorius, Dann Huff, Michael Landau, Joe Satriani, Robin Trower, Jon Bonham and Jeff Porcaro. The cumulative sound ranges from rock ballads to rockers. Their creative songwriting and instrumentation always brings a positive vibe to the listener. Guitarist Grey Moore, in particular, has been playing and teaching guitar for over twenty years, and is also a producer and recording engineer.

In addition to live shows to promote their debut CD, Soul Angel will be featured on two upcoming Oasis (www.oasiscd.com) and SBS Records (www.sbs-records.com) compilation discs.
