Review of "Under A Watchful Eye"
|
By: Terry Allen
uite rightly citing influences as Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, with his own innovative style, instrumental rock style guitarist Darren Wilson comes from South Australia with a very well performed and recorded EP, surprisingly recorded on 4 track cassette. The most surprising part is the quality of the recording itself, because 4 track is not generally a format that lends itself to good quality recording.
The title track of the EP is probably the best example of Darren's music, with some rather excellent riffs brought from the instrument of choice and a very cool backing too.
The opening track, "Mission Complete" is also a fine example of what can be acheived with some hard work and not a small amount of talent, as are "State Of Illusion" and closing track "Vision Splendid". There are no doubt thousands worldwide who'd love to become as good at playing guitar as their idols and Darren's already put in a lot of work getting there -- this EP is evidence enough of that.
