he first of what would be two joint efforts by this duet of guitar virtuosos. Tilt showcases both Howe and Kotzen doing what they do best, with very good song stylings, they build the foundations for blistering fretwork. This is not an excercise in musical excess, as the creative bond between the two makes for some outstanding technical structures, each showing their respective loyalty to the inspirations that has led them to the pinnacle of guitar mastery. An interesting point to make is the obvious difference in style and tone each player has, you never have to wonder which player is taking the spot, Howe's style utilizes combinations of neo-classical shred, with fusion and jazz, with and incredible technique that is entirely his own. Kotzen, has some neo-classical as well, but a strong blues and rock voice are present as well, he will coax the odd tones from his guitar much like Jeff Beck, and than surge into a frenzied mutant scale with abandon. Some outstanding drumming peformances are present throughout the CD, as this music is not just a jam, they are carefully calculated compositions that demand one's full attention, and the fact that they are able to solo fluidly over some of these songs is yet another story.
