Review of "The Unstruck Melody"
|
By: Geoff Melton
ll it takes is on trip through Eric Mantel's latest disc The Unstruck Melody and
you'll be dumbfounded trying to figure out where he's been and why you haven't heard
of him considering he's been in the music business for over 30 years and has several
other solo and band releases under his belt. Throughout the 20 cuts here Mantel not
only showcases his outstanding guitar-work, but also his songwriting, both of which
show impressive depth and diversity. With a good mixture of vocal and instrumental
cuts he covers a lot of ground style wise moving from good old shredding and hard
rock to jazz fusion, funk and even some Bluegrass and Classical and manages to
tackle them all without a problem. My only real complaint with The Unstruck Melody
is that it's a little too long and a couple of the cuts could've been cut, but
overall this is an outstanding release.
