Review of "The Unstruck Melody"
|
By: Sari N. Kent
ric Mantel comes from a musically inclined family. His mother was a professional voice actress and his father was a journalist/editor for WMAQ radio in Chicago, so music and songwriting is in the blood for Mantel and it shines brightly on "The Unstruck Melody." The first track, which is the title track, gives listeners a taste of what's ahead on the album with Mantel pretending to change stations on the radio looking for just the right song. "Tribute" is stirring and a song one could easily get wrapped up in. "The Simple Things" articulates just that with its straightforwardness, it's a very easygoing song. "The Real You" displays Mantel's exceptional guitar genius as well as adept drumming. "Tai Chi" is an adjustment from most of the songs on "The Unstruck Melody." It's peaceful and a track one could perform the ancient Chinese art to and achieve the desired result. "Shine On" is uplifting and a wonderful track to blare after a long, hard day at work or in life. "Merry-Go-Round" is a playful track that could easily be heard while whirling around on one of young children's most cherished pastimes. To conclude, Eric Mantel's "The Unstruck Melody" is a choice example that musical gifts run in the family.
