letter t's amazing how the world, techniques and sounds of guitarists have evolved today, after the evolutionary period of Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Green, Beck and many others.

And as every period of musical styles, things change and develop.... such fret board masters: Satriani, Vai, Malmsteen to name a few burns the fret board with scales, faster than you can say: Guitar hero. But once in a while, a guitar player comes around that has one sole purpose: Using those six strings to create feelings, superb tones and amazing themes. Now, I'm not saying that the aforementioned guitar players, didn't do just that!! What I am saying is, this guitar player is supreme, he has all the trimmings of a superb musician, he knows every string and he sure knows how to caress it!! The only guitar player I can think of who resembles this particular man, is the ever excellent Eric Johnson.

Yes, I know you, are dying to know who this fabulous guitar player is ! I'm talking about: Eric Mantel. That's right! Yeah I didn't know him either, but he certainly knows his guitar and he caresses, squeezes and riffs his way through this fine album called: "The Unstruck melody".

Divided into 2, blending instrumentals and tracks with vocals (which he by the way, superbly handles) this album proves to be quite an interesting outing!! As aforementioned, Eric Mantel, has the same feel for tone and chords as the great Eric Johnson!

This album, holds 20 (yes that's right) tracks....and would you believe, he just about covers every corner of possible guitar styles, that you care to mention. And may I add in great style and conviction.

So Eric Mantel, welcome to the fabulous world of fine, even supreme guitar players! In my book, what we need are guitarists that show emotion rather than "see how fast I can burn my fret board scale- type of guitarists" I'm so glad, that this promo CD slipped through my mail- box. What a great album it is! And with it's over 70 minutes of running time, you WILL get your money worth!

So, a final note...if you, like me, are into the softer more soothing and soulful guitar playing, but still with powerful engagement and direction. Then my friend, hurry out and get this fine album, before your mate can say: "Hey listen to this!"

Ok, maybe not so much progressive...but one hell of a Guitar album!! P.S. Eric has some supreme help on this fine outing!
