he Unstruck Melody leads into the broad music of Chicagoan guitarist Eric
Mantel. The 20 tracks last about 80 minutes and consist of a wide variety.
Eric Mantel is fascinating with his guitar. It doesn't matter if it is Hard
Rock, Fusion, Funk, Country, Classical, Indian or even a pop ballad. Eric
can do it all and he does it very good. There are 8 vocal tracks and 9
instrumental pieces. Eric displays different influences, from Jimi Hendrix
to Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and more Jazz and Rock guitarists. Since 30 years
Eric has been in the business!
It was about time to use his own style without compromise, just how he would
like it. He gave us an album with a lot of special moments, but also a few
less strong songs, they are too "soft pop". But anyway, it doesn't matter
what he plays, his solos are fascinating. Most of the time the songs are
harmonized with keyboards. The tempo is fast and relaxed, and he also shows
it from different angles. The 11th track is Indian inspired. I especially
like the fusion tracks "There are no words" and "Tai-Chi", "Tribute" and
"Wings of Fire" from Hard Rock and "The Real You" and "Exit 10",somewhere
between Rock, Jazz and Pop. But also his funny country song "Finger Pickin'
Country" is funny and surprising. It shows his fast finger work. "The
Unstruck Melody" is not a strange album like other guitarists have produced.
Who orient themselves more to the extreme side. Eric Mantel likes melody and
harmony without forgetting about solos and his fast fingers.
