letter hicago native Eric Mantel is someone I never heard of when it comes to some serious guitar playing and too bad I didn't acquaint myself with this guy sooner because there's some serious talent here! "The UNstruck Melody" is 20 songs seperated into two acts. There's instrumentals and there's vocal songs. Despite my last review, this guy has a voice actually and it reminds me alot of Peter Frampton and it doesn't annoy me! Musically, Eric uses Asia/Oriental influence with Rock and Metal components; somewhere in the ball park of let's say SRV, Larry Mitchell, Satriani and Santana with some songs even reaching plateaus of Rush, Edgar Winter Group, Focus, and Jeff Healey. As you can sniff it out, this is more Blues-oriented and like I said, no matter what song it is, they all are good. I just like this guy's instrumentals big time cuz he just goes nuts on some of these and others just have a lot of great emotion in them. Very solid CD and serious job on the design of this as well; seems Eric pays all his attention on the finer details.
