Classical

Classical guitarist Susan McDonald writes about her CD, The Phases Of Eve/Gilgamesh, "The Phases Of Eve was composed as a musical insight into the life of a woman. It includes elements to which every woman can relate. I divided it into 13 movements because a woman typically has 13 cycles in a year and because a calendar year includes 13 lunar cycles. Along the same lines, the playing length of the entire piece is 28 minutes. The piece has become autobiographical for me. I have drawn upon my own experiences and emotions as well as those of other women I have known to represent each phase of life. Gilgamesh was inspired by the ancient Bablonian text of the same name. Discovered in the mid-19th century in the ruins of Ninevah, the clay tablets on which the story is written in cuneiform are dated at about 2500 B.C., making it the oldest known work of literature. I have focused my musical retelling of the story on the friendship between Gilgamesh and Enkidu because I feel it resounds so poetically with the universal theme of coming to terms with loss." Instrumental Guitar (Acoustic/Classical), total running time, 61:42
