Al DiMeola

"The Infinite Desire"

The Story
Bill Milkowski writes in the liner notes, "The rich, vibrant and highly evocative music on "The Infinite Desire" represents continued growth by the artist who made such a big splash back in 1974 as a shy nineteen-year-old virtuoso with Return To Forever. After a string of impressive solo albums, one of the world's great guitarists has found a home at Telarc, where his seasoned, composerly vision is now coming to fruition via "The Infinite Desire". The most dazzling display of sheer guitar heroics is offered on a sizzling "Race With Devil On Turkish Highway". Al's guitar partner here is Steve Vai - together they burn a blue streak on one of the most challenging, daredevil pieces in DiMeola's book. The soothing "Valentina" offsets the more dynamic, rhythmically charged "Big Sky Azzura", while the most dramatic track here is "Shaking The Spirits". The presence of a few superstar players here (Rachel Z, Herbie Hancock) only ups the ante on the great guitarist's most appealing package in years."
