Review of "The Blues & Some Other Stuff"
|
By: Kirk Schutte
ith all the groups out there playing Ventures-type instrumentals, its easy to forget that Booker T and the MG's sold more instro singles than anybody. If you need a change of pace Germany's Martin Schmidt has just the ticket - blues instrumentals with jazz, country, and acid/Hendrix overtones. Excellent musicianship, meticulous production, and flawless technique highlight every track, all written by Martin and arranged with his superb band. Soulful slow blues, jazzy vamps , country rockers, some slide, a Bookerish organ, a little wha-wha, there's plenty of variety among the 14 tunes you'll find on this CD, and every track is a winner.
