Starting his own instrumental band in 1996, German guitarist Martin Schmidt released The Blues & Some Other Stuff in 1999 to significant acclaim. Primarily blues-based, the material also incorporates elements of rock, surf and a number of other styles. With a full band sound augmented by drummer Jens Biehl, keyboard player Thilo Zetzmann and bassist Christoph Herder, Schmidt is able to create interesting and satisfying guitar-driven music. A talented improvisor and soloist, Schmidt can deliver plenty of of melodious and quietly passionate leads and sublimely savage blues-meets-rock licks.
