Review of "Tech Noir"
|
he material from Canadian guitarist Greigg Fraser falls in line with the techno rock-power funk that was made popular by the Jeff Beck / Jan Hammer collaborations of the late 70s-early 80s. At times it moves closer to the Miami Vice style techno vibe with the layers of keyboards provided by Brian Waters. Fraser is certainly influenced by Jeff Beck. This is not a bad thing, as his melodic approach is easy to follow and his guitar tones are enjoyable. There is also an influence in tone and
style to Joe Satriani, which again is impressive. The only downside to the music is the programmed drums. Guitarists may not notice, but drummers will wish that the drumming on this release was as strong as the guitar work from Fraser. Overall an excellent release for guitar aficionados.
