Review of "Swimming In The Dutch Mordant"

very classy quartet out of missouri here with their debut 12-track CD. I'm just throwing some like bands at you for comparison-only reasons since there's similairities but at times SST is original; Ice Age, Shadow Gallery, Planet X, Ohm, Liquid Tension Experiment, Transatlantic and Confusion come to mind. The reason is the well thought out compositions, the tight bond the members have that make an intricate cohesion and even down to some of the New World Yanni-style songs ("Linear A" for example) that are somewhat of a different twist to add the progressiveness to as well as a balanced mix of Blues, Jazz, Fusion, Metal and Rock. "Linear A" has one hell of a riff in it as well and is just one fine example of musical knowledge in their songwriting.
Other tunes to speak of and recommended are "Ass Hammer", "Floggin' The Maiden" and pretty much the majority of the CD. I'm still sitting here wondering why this band isn't signed. Definately material for Magna Carta, Lion Music, Progressive Arts or Inside Out. At least check them out if you like intelligent and thought-provoking music.
