Smooth jazz guitarist Doug Markley's first self-produced CD, Sunset Dance, features nine instrumental tracks recorded with musicians such as Chico Huff (bass), Ted Baker (keyboards, who plays on the most recent Steely Dan album) and Andy Kravitz (drums), among others. After his 1989 release on Visual Musik "Philly Fillet" met with critical success, Markley geared this CD towards rock and jazz listeners seeking ultra-tasty guitar work over mood-evoking changes. Tunes on Sunset Dance such as "Almost Home", "Island Dreams" and the title track are gently dynamic and purely melodic, but Markley also leaves time to solo, adding his improvisational calling card on each piece on both electric and acoustic guitars.
