econd solo album by Ten guitarist Chris Francis and yes, it's an instrumental album with lots of guitar wankery and programmed drums.
The album is somewhat based on imaginary movies, like a soundtrack compilation or whatever. And I gotta give Chris as much credit as saying that this ain't just wankery. He's got some melody in his straight rock based, well, guitar rock. And I'm sure some of these songs really would've gotten some attention in the AOR community, IF they had some vocals instead of the ever-whining guitars. Now they'll probably just get the attention of other guitar freaks (and there's lots of those as well, don't get me wrong here).
Songs like "Sometime Crazy Lady" and the title track are songs Chris definitely could have gotten more out of in a band setting, but hell, that's my view. "Riding for a Fall" are a pleasant exception, it works well in the instrumental setting, and also funk rockers like "You Can Dance Better Than That".
Stuff like "Used-To-Be" is boyband-rip-off garbage/junk/trash, though. The melody sounds suspiciously like something I've heard before somewhere, probably by accident, hehe, on the radio or TV. And "2nd Base" defines the word BORING, yes, in capital letters. "Death Bitch" is supposed to be the "metal" song in here, but to me that one was boring, too. I've heard better "metal", to put it like that. And need I mention the instrumental guitar wank version of Madonna's "Material Girl"? Nah, thought not.
