On Static, Texas shredder Doug Stapp combines solid melodies, heavy riffs, fast licks and lots of squeals to form the basis for his mostly instrumental guitar debut. Wicked wah-wah riffs drive the title track, while impossibly fluid legato flurries anchor the "Cat Scratch Fever"-inflicted "Broke". Modern weirdness makes an appearance in "Everything Is Great Now That I Lost All Hope" (along with a heavy dose of shred and whammy bar), while "Blue" takes it down a notch, and offers some slower melodic lead work.
